Where does my water come from?
The Le-Ax Water District obtains its drinking water from a horizontal collector well located approximately 200 feet south of the Hocking River in the northeast corner of York Township section 2, in Athens County Ohio. It pulls its water from the Hocking River Aquifer.
Where can I pay my bill?
You may pay your bill in person at our office or at any Hocking Valley Bank branch. Payments should be mailed to our post office box. You may also pay by phone with a MasterCard or Visa debit or credit card or check by phone. For your convenience, Le-Ax offers Automated Bill Payment Plans with the payment deducted from your checking or savings account. Please contact the office for information.
What is needed to purchase a new tap?
You will need to complete a tap application at our office. We will give you a flag to mark where you would like the tap installed. Upon approval, you will need to return to the office to complete a water users agreement, provide a copy of the recorded deed for proof of ownership and pay the tap fees. The normal time frame for a new tap installation is 2 to 4 weeks.
How much does a new tap cost?
The current cost for a 5/8-inch residential tap is $1,830. Please call the office for the cost of larger meters.
I bought property with an existing tap. How do I transfer the account into my name?
New owners must complete a water users agreement and provide a copy of the recorded deed as proof of ownership. This can be completed at the Office or the agreement can be downloaded from this site. You would need to complete all the information, have your signature notarized and mail the completed agreement to our office. There is no deposit required from an owner.
I am renting property. How do I transfer the account into my name?
The owner must sign a landowner waiver to give us permission to transfer the account into your name. You are then required to pay a $50.00 deposit, which will be applied to your final bill. Upon receipt of both the waiver and the deposit the account will be changed into your name.
I am moving, how do I take the service out of my name?
You need to contact the office at least 24 hours prior to the requested reading date. You will need to provide Le-Ax with a forwarding address for your final billing.
How often is my meter read?
Meters are read each month. The reading dates appear on your billing statements. Estimations occur only when it is not possible for the meter personnel to access the meter pit due to bad weather or the pit being covered.
Why do you issue boil orders?
Boil orders or advisories are issued when a waterline has been depressurized for any reason including repairs of broken or cut water mains or the construction or moving of water mains. Boil advisories are published in the Athens Messenger and the Logan Daily News, broadcast on area radio stations including WATH/WXTQ, WAIS/WSEO, WLGN, 101.5, and WOUB, and ACTV-7 News. Customers in the affected area are also notified by an automated calling system. Boil advisories remain in effect until safe water samples are collected and tested. This testing procedure takes a minimum of 24 hours to complete.
Should I boil all water used and how long should I boil my water?
Only water that is used for drinking and cooking purposes need to be boiled. It should be brought to a rolling boil for 1-2 minutes.
What should I do if my bill shows I have high consumption?
The first thing you should do is check the reading dates to determine if you had a problem or extra company during that time frame. You should then check for leaking faucets or a toilet that does not shut off properly. If you still cannot find the cause, call the office and ask to have your meter reading verified. The meter reader will check to make sure the meter reading is correct and see if the meter is running which could indicate you have a leak. |
