Emergency Cold Weather Notice & Possible Office Closure Due to Inclement Weather

Emergency Cold Weather Notice

We have received several calls related to frozen water lines due to extremely cold temperatures. To help prevent frozen pipes, please let the cold side of an indoor faucet drip steadily, especially overnight during the coldest hours. This will keep water moving in the line service line and prevent freezing.

  • Choose a faucet served by plumbing on an outside wall or the one farthest from where your water line enters the home, often a bathroom or laundry.
  • Open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls to allow warm air to circulate.
  • Keep your thermostat set consistently—avoid turning heat down too low at night.
  • Seal drafts near pipes and around foundation penetrations if you can safely do so.
  • Make sure the meter pit lid is in place and closed tightly.

Thank you for helping protect your service and reduce systemwide outages during this cold event. Should a water emergency arise, contact us at 740-593-7502. Please be advised longer response times may arise as we receive higher than normal call volumes.

Possible Office Closure due to inclement weather:

If Athens County should be under a level 3 snow emergency, Monday, January 26th, the District Office will be closed. The District Office will reopen at 8:00 am the day after the level 3 has been lifted.
